Description of Organizations Services:
The Marion County Senior Center serves as a focal point for senior services in the community. To many seniors, the most important reasons to visit a senior center are the socializing opportunities and the wide variety of things to do. Individuals age 60 or over (and their spouses regardless of age) can socialize with old friends or meet new friends, eat with others, participate in a wide variety of activities, and if interested, volunteer to help the senior center provide services to meet the needs of senior adults. Senior services available include various activities such as arts and crafts, table and other games, music, exercise classes, educational programs, counseling, information and assistance, and outreach programs designed to provide a means of increasing social contact among older persons. Hot, nutritious meals are served daily, and meals are delivered to the homes of frail or disabled persons who are unable to go to the senior center and who cannot prepare nutritious meals for themselves. Persons are transported in groups or individually as the need arises to the senior center, recreational and educational activities, medical facilities, Social Service and Social Security offices and for shopping needs. Staff members assist seniors in receiving benefits to which they are eligible by providing information regarding available programs and services. Medicare does not provide funding, but Medicaid may provide some assistance. Suggested donation levels have been established to help offset the cost of providing services. These donations stay at the senior center and are used to meet the budget needs of that particular program. ...(Read More)
